New Years Fairy

When I was a child we had a magical, generous fairy that visited every New Years Eve and left a special toy to ring in the new year. I loved the anticipation of waiting for Santa Clause on Christmas Eve and then a week later waiting on New Years Eve for the fairy. One particular gift that stands out in my mind was a baby doll that the fairy left me. The reason I remember this doll was because of the horror I felt when I discovered that the fairy had left me a doll with brown skin............before you go and accuse me of being racist please remember that I was 5 and a little girl that could only imagine mothering a baby that was truly her own. After a few days I am happy to report that I "accepted" that baby into my growing family after my mother explained the process and concept of adoption. I laugh now when I remember how many "babies" I cared for at that age just confident that I would be the BEST mother when I got older because I thought "Really, how hard could it be?" LOL, LOL. It is not hard when they have a button to stop their crying and do not produce massive filled diapers at 2,4, and 6 AM. Ok, I have gone a little off subject....I have fond memories of the New Years fairy and she became even more special to me when I discovered as an adult that the New Years fairy was my beloved grandma Zabriskie. It gave me another reason to add to the list of a million reasons that she was the greatest person to enter into my life.
